A 60-day voyage through the Australian Coast was terminated following the fatal incident of an older lady who was left behind by the vessel on a remote island.

The passenger had been hiking on the tropical location with fellow passengers from the Coral Adventurer, but parted ways from the group for a pause. The vessel departed without her and went back several hours later after the personnel realised the woman was missing.

A major hunt found her person the subsequent day.

Authorities are looking into the event, in coordination with law enforcement and the medical examiner.

The CEO of the shipping company stated that guests and personnel on the ship were informed that the remainder of the journey had been cancelled due to the "tragic passing and previous engine troubles".

In a statement, he added that guests would be provided a full refund, and said the operator was working "to arrange the return journeys of the travelers via private aircraft".

Officials also released an latest announcement, and said they had "issued a directive to the Commander" preventing any further travelers from getting on the liner.

The official said that they would inspect the ship in the port city upon its return.

Chronology of Events

The vessel first departed Cairns on the 24th of October, and was just two days into the expedition at the point of the elderly woman's demise. Lizard Island was the opening port on the journey.

Travelers on board - who usually pay large sums of money to participate in the cruise - were ferried there for a shore visit with the choice of walking or underwater exploration.

Next of Kin Statement

The daughter of the elderly passenger said that her family was "stunned and distressed that the liner left the island after an organised outing without my parent".

In her statement, she portrayed her mother as an "energetic octogenarian" who was a participant of a walking club.

"From the little information we have been provided, it seems that there was a breakdown of responsibility and common sense," she stated.

She further stated that she hoped the investigation would be able to identify what "the company should have performed that might have preserved Mother's life".

"We understand from the police that it was a extremely warm period, and mum became unwell on the mountain ascent," she explained.

"Officials suggested her to go back, without accompaniment. Then the boat departed, apparently without doing a passenger count.

"At some stage in that sequence, or not long after, she succumbed, by herself."

Organization Reaction

Through an announcement, the Head affirmed that the company was "collaborating extensively with officials to assist their investigation".

He mentioned that the firm was "deeply sorry that this has happened" and had provided its full support to the family.

Shipping Sector Procedures

The ship caters for up to 120 guests with 46 crew, according to official details. It was purpose-built to enter isolated regions of the Australian coast and is equipped with "tenders" - small boats used to ferry travelers on shore trips.

Occurrences such as this are infrequent, and cruise ships have systems to document which passengers are embarking or disembarking, according to maritime specialists.

"Going ashore secretly or [back] onboard simply isn't an option," a specialist commented.

Vessel operators take these methods with great importance and have "sophisticated systems in place to prevent such incidents from happening," the authority further stated.

"This appears to be most likely a shocking - and unfortunate - single occurrence."
