Stephen Ireland started turning out for the team in pre-season this summer through good mate and present team teammate Blake Norton, and the former Republic of Ireland player then asked additional former professionals, who all play in a weekly nine-a-side match, to join in.

So great is the strength in depth at Wythenshawe, Niasse made his first game at full-back.

"It's a little unusual but then, I love running and just move forward - I'm not staying back that much," he added.

"I warn my defender 'I'm not staying' and that I'm just going to continue running.

"The running is what I'm looking for. It's good fun."

In addition to Cisse's six scores on debut, Ireland has scored eight in 3 appearances for Wythenshawe, while Boyd scored five on his first appearance and Joleon Lescott, a defender by trade, notched a triple in one game as a striker.

Paul Barrow, thirty-eight, who features on the wing for the opposition, faced former Wigan defender Maynor Figueroa on Sunday - and had to tell his nine-year-old son who Heskey was.
